The charity making life better by water

Our future talent programmes

We're committed to helping local people realise their potential. Our future talent programmes are part of the training, skills and job opportunities we're proud to provide for people who want to build a career with the Trust.

It takes an extraordinary team with a wide range of skills to bring our waterways to life, and we are keen to welcome new talent with fresh ideas into the Trust.

We recognise that we need a broad spectrum of talent to help us run things smoothly, from traditional skills such as stone masonry and engineering to IT and social media.

All of the roles our people do are necessary to continue the vitally important work that we undertake on our canal network.

I have learnt so much at the Trust in the way of practical skills, along with people skills, that you simply could not gain anywhere else.

Our future talent programmes

Our apprenticeship and trainee programmes help us to preserve essential skills and future-proof our organisation for generations to come. We pride ourselves on the expertise of our people and are fully committed to supporting our new talent become experts in their field, in their own right.

If you're looking for an exciting career where no two days are the same and you can support caring for the environment, helping make life better by water for everyone, every day, then the Trust is the place for you.

Lauren's experience

"I was 16 when I joined and had never had a job before. I was straight out of high school, had never been in a predominantly male environment or travelled anywhere. But since joining the Trust, I have worked well with my peers and have been treated no differently. I have travelled on my own and become more independent, and most of all I have enjoyed every second of being in the Trust and cannot wait for many more times to come. So if you're thinking of joining do it, because honestly you will not regret it."

Lauren Milton, apprentice m&e engineering technician
